Psychology of Batting
Batting Psychology in cricket is a powerful but often underestimated part of a batter’s performance.
Batting is as much mental as it is physical. You can have perfect technique, but if your mindset isn’t right, you can still fail.
What Is Batting Psychology?
Batting psychology refers to the mental skills, attitudes, and emotional control that help a cricketer perform well with the bat under various conditions—pressure, form slumps, tough bowling, or high expectations.
Pre-Ball Mental Routine for a Batter:
- Take a deep breath
- Look around the field – spot gaps
- Visualize the next ball – see yourself playing a confident shot
- Repeat a positive phrase – “Watch the ball,” or “Play late”
- Tap the crease, get into stance
- Focus only on the bowler’s hand
This 5–10 second mental reset helps block out distractions.
